When I was a kid, I used to hang out at my neighbor’s house a lot. His dad was a huge Laker’s fan. Every time there was a game on, the TV was on and we’d sit down to watch it. I loved hearing the roars of the crowd when a ball swooshed in the net. For Christmas that year, my grandma got me a Laker’s poster. The following Christmas, my parents gave me a jersey. My obsession began to grow from there. I started collecting memorabilia. When I was a sophomore in high school I went to my first game. It was the highlight of my childhood. But it never occurred to me that God might use my love of basketball to help others.
Six years ago, I connected with a ministry that matches adult volunteers with at-risk inner-city youth. I connected with my new “little brother” by watching Larker games at the local community center. It’s really fun to share my passion for this team while also sharing my passion for Christ.
